Internship Mechanical & AIT

Agena Space team develops key technologies for future satellite platform and strategy for in-orbit service missions, provides system engineering studies, and supports product manufacturing and integration on the platform.

Making space an agile journey is our moto.

Are you a space enthusiast with a talent for squeezing a lot into a little?

We are looking for a Mechanical AIT Intern to design and integrate the key components of our propulsion system and our spacecraft. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to ensure every part, from propellant tanks to electronic housings, fits together perfectly, while keeping an eagle eye on weight reduction and system compactness. You’ll need to balance creativity with rigorous engineering discipline to turn conceptual designs into reality.

Your Missions

  • Design, develop, and integrate complex mechanical systems that will propel the tomorrow’s satellites.
  • Perform material trade-offs and selection.
  • Dive deep into CAD software to create detailed models and assemblies.
  • Use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure the structure can withstand the mechanical and thermal loads.
  • Optimize topological features to increase performance while minimizing mass.
  • Work closely with the team to prototype and iteratively develop designs, incorporating feedback and improvements along the way.

Your role could expand to include wider responsibilities such as:

  • Lead design reviews and present your concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a Product Life Management (PLM) approach to track the lifecycle and configuration management of our products.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of functional dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
  • Establish quality management processes and ISO standards.

Must have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in mechanical design and integration for complex systems.
  • Proven track record in topology optimization and design for lightweight structures.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and their implementation.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems in aerospace or similar high-precision industries.

Nice to have

  • 2+ years of experience in the aerospace industry or other fields involving complex, compact systems.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks or NX.
  • Thorough understanding of functional dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Good knowledge in materials such as aluminum alloys, honeycomb structures, composites, and ceramics.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to consider our customer’s integration constraints.
  • Familiarity with MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) design considerations
  • A strong willingness to be part of an execution-first and results-oriented team.
  • A high degree of autonomy, because we know you don’t need hand-holding.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Enjoy explaining what you do.
  • Full professional proficiency in English is required. Fluency in French is a plus.
